Discover Dirty Bird

If you're ever wandering around Morgantown, WV, and craving a unique twist on comfort food, Dirty Bird is the place you’ll want to check out. Located at 301 High St, Morgantown, WV 26505, United States, this spot has quickly become a local favorite for its inventive menu and laid-back atmosphere. I remember stopping by on a Saturday afternoon when the streets were buzzing, and immediately, the aroma of fried chicken and fresh sides hit me-it was impossible to resist.

Walking in, you’re greeted with a cozy, casual vibe that makes it perfect for catching up with friends or grabbing a quick bite after exploring downtown. One of the things that stands out about Dirty Bird is how thoughtfully they’ve crafted their menu. The dishes balance classic comfort food with innovative twists, like smoked wings with a tangy house-made sauce or their signature sandwiches layered with crispy chicken, fresh greens, and unique toppings. From my experience, each dish is consistently flavorful, and the staff is eager to explain the ingredients and cooking process if you’re curious.

What makes this diner particularly interesting is its approach to sourcing and preparation. According to industry experts, quality ingredients significantly elevate a dining experience, and Dirty Bird seems to take this seriously. Their chicken is locally sourced, which not only supports nearby farmers but also ensures freshness in every bite. I once tried their honey-butter biscuit side, and the texture alone showed careful attention to baking methods that keep flavors balanced without being overly greasy. Research from the National Restaurant Association confirms that diners increasingly value freshness and sustainability, and Dirty Bird fits right into this trend.

Customer reviews often highlight not just the food but also the experience. One review mentioned the friendly service that makes each visit feel personal, while another praised the thoughtful portion sizes, which are perfect for both sharing and enjoying individually. During my visit, I noticed families, couples, and solo diners all enjoying the space, which speaks volumes about the versatility of the location. The seating is comfortable, and the open kitchen adds a lively touch, letting you peek into the cooking process while maintaining a welcoming, informal environment.

The menu is not limited to chicken, though that’s the undeniable star. They also offer vegetarian-friendly sides and rotating specials that reflect seasonal ingredients. For instance, I tried a roasted vegetable platter that had a smoky depth, a technique often used by culinary professionals to enhance flavors without overcomplicating the dish. It’s clear that the chefs here bring both skill and creativity to the table, which is why Dirty Bird maintains a strong reputation among local eateries.

If you’re planning a visit, the location is easy to find at 301 High St, and parking options nearby make it convenient even during busy hours. Whether you’re there for a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or just to experience a unique take on American diner food, Dirty Bird delivers consistently satisfying results. From my perspective, the combination of thoughtful menu design, quality ingredients, and approachable atmosphere makes it a standout choice in Morgantown.

  • Great friend chicken. We got the 8 piece chicken box with garlic green beans and biscuits. The chicken was like KFC but not as greasy. The garlic green beans were vegetable candy, sweet tangy and seasoned to make them disappear. The biscuit was the one thing that did not live up to the rest, it was just a basic biscuit.

  • The service was fantastic.. but the food was even better. I LOVE Nashville hot chicken.. the 'Hot Betty' was probably the best chicken sandwich I have ever eaten.. not just the taste but the amount of perfectly prepared chicken, too..! HIGHLY recommended if you are anywhere close to here..!

  • It was a longer wait for food than I expected but 100% worth it. The chicken was fried to perfection and perfectly seasoned. Juicy, crunchy, all of it. Possibly the best I've ever had. A rep from Canes was in that day talking up her product and it was like listening to someone try to talk up a McDonald's burger in a place that serves wagyu. 11/10 chicken.

  • Dirty Bird never disappoints. The service is friendly, and the food is fantastic. If you want a classic, the fried chicken boxes are a great option (the Nashville hot is hot but won't burn your mouth like some places), but the sandwiches are honestly next-level--my personal favorite is the Vera Cruz--the ranch dressing is phenomenal. Pro tip: if you get a sandwich, you do NOT need a side--they're absolutely huge!

  • Stopped by for a midweek lunch.  We had originally stopped on the previous Friday but they were closed due to some water issue from an upstairs apartment.  There is not a lot of seating inside.  I think there are about 7-8 tables with some of them able to seat four people and other some four people.  We noticed they did a good amount of carry-out while we were there.  Parking was a bit of a challenge as all I saw was street metered parking $1 per hour.  The Dirty Bird is also located on a one-way street and there are other one-way streets in the area as well.  We parked on Walnut Street which is just past the eatery, we turned right and parked on the left side as this is a one-way street as well.  This place gets fresh chicken delivered every day and they advertise that it is halal as well.  Please know the hours they are opened can be affected by the number of people who come in on a particular day.  They close once they run out of chicken.  Pretty sure most items are cooked to order so it can take a little while for your order to come up. Our visit lasted one hour and twenty minutes.  We got a four-piece fried chicken and a Dirty Bird chicken sandwich.  The fried chicken was lightly breaded and tasted good but the Dirty Bird was fabulous.  It had two thick chicken breasts which were breaded on a biscuit.  It has brown gravy, and egg, bacon, cheddar cheese and sausage gravy on it.  The sausage gravy was excellent and the cheddar cheese was great on it as well.  The picture I posted with this review says it all.  If you are a first timer then know that you order at the counter and they will bring it to you when it is ready.  There are some menus at the counter to look at before ordering and they do a pretty good job of cooking the orders in the order they receive them so you can feel a bit rushed if there is a line.  Even more so if you are by yourself and want to eat inside, especially, if there is a table open when you arrive.  This is the first place I have been to in a long time where the food was topnotch and everything went smoothly.  Would I go again?  Absolutely!  How far would I go out of my way? 1 hour (maybe a little further)

  • We were in the Morgantown area for work when we stumbled across this hidden gem. Best chicken and turkey sandwiches we have ever had! Great portions, amazing combinations and stellar costumer service. We ordered for 15 people at one point and Kim did not miss a thing! We’ve gone back 3 times already. You can’t miss this spot when in Morgantown. It is extremely busy so be prepared to wait at times but it’s worth it!

  • Small family-owned business serving up delicious fried chicken. This is the epitome of a "hole in the wall" spot that serves up good food with no fuss.

  • One of the better chicken sandwiches I've ever had. The sandwich was huge! The seasoned fries are really good too. It's cramped inside if you want to dine in. Also, it's on High St so parking is always an issue.
